“The Minneapolis, Minnesota LRT is the first train designed,
manufactured, analyzed and tested in its entirety in Mexico.”
With a vision constantly molding the present of the Transport and Mobility industry worldwide; Bombardier, global leader in the Railway and Aerospace Industries, accepted the challenge to communicate both twin cities of the state of Minnesota, in the beginnings of 2000, with the construction of the Minneapolis LRT.
The project, then called “Hiawatha Line Minneapolis” found a way to be positioned as an authentic example of Innovation due to its environmental and technological impact. Assigned to Bombardier Transportation México who along with Grupo SSC developed, evaluated and validated the structural design of the LRT closely following required normative to guarantee its operational safety.
With an estimated investment of $957.M for the whole project, ensuring its reliability became an imperative. To fulfill this engagement, Mexican Engineers and Experts staffed at Grupo SSC evaluated near 60 different virtual scenarios under various conditions such as critical loads, assessments of static resistance, analysis of natural frequencies, sagging, welded unions and impact among others. This study was a product of the ANSYS implementation, the simulation software which allowed to digitalize and validate structural designs in the passenger area.
The precision and rate of the results generated during the development phase of the LRT eased the way of the decision making needed to establish a final design thus eliminating uncertainties regarding its structural integrity and becoming North America’s benchmark for quality and safety standards.
